Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze, first, how China has included Latin America and the Caribbean in the Belt and Road Initiative, and, secondly, how the countries of the region have responded to this proposal. For this, Chinese foreign policy documents for Latin America and the Caribbean will be analyzed, speeches given by President Xi Jinping during his official trips to the region, documents issued during the summits of the China-CELAC forum, in addition to documents and agreements reached during and after the two forums of the Belt and Road Initiative held in China in 2017 and 2019 respectively. Finally, some of the projects that are already carried out under the initiative will be analyzed.
