Abstract

This paper discusses the role played by state energy companies in the respective development models of Russia and China. The geopolitical and security reasons behind the need to exercise strategic control over their energy resources (oil and gas, in particular) will be discussed; with the aim of putting them at the service of their respective foreign policy agendas. The expected outcomes are to expand knowledge and contribute to the debate and reflection, particularly in the face of the challenges generated by the instability of the process of economic, financial and commercial globalization during the last two decades.
